Living my girlhood dream of finding a Secret Garden

When I was a little girl, one of my favorite movies was The Secret Garden. I loved the idea of living in a huge mansion with lots of doors and hidden spaces. I also LOVED the idea of a secret garden somewhere on the grounds that was magical and full of light and beauty.

I have searched high and low for a magical place like the one in the movie and only recently did I find something that came close to matching the idea I had in my head.

That place is Brookgreen Gardens.

I imagined my secret garden to have an entry like this.

I don’t know if you have ever been, but my first time was this past week when my husband, friend and I went to a Cool Summer Evenings Concert. See the post here.

We didn’t get to see any of the gardens that evening as we arrived only a few minutes after the concert started.

So, in order to take advantage of our Brookgreen Gardens ticket, good for seven days starting on the day it is purchased, my husband and I returned Wednesday evening to check it out.

Wednesday afternoon was a rainy one, so we didn’t know at first if we were going to get to go, but after we arrived we decided that after a rain storm is the PERFECT time to go to Brookgreen Gardens.

All of the flowers, trees, shrubbery, sculptures, ponds and grass were sparkling in the late summer sun where the rain had left its mark. It was breathtaking to see the little diamond-like sparkles everywhere you turn.

Because it had been a rainy day, and it was a Wednesday, there weren’t many people meandering along the garden paths. It was almost like our own secret garden.

In that secret garden, there were beautiful flowers, gorgeous trees and fancy sculptures that would make anyone appreciate the human form.

The flowers are beautiful in Brookgreen Gardens.

The only place we didn’t get to go was the Nature Trail because, due to all the rain, it was flooded.

However, that just gives me a relevant excuse to go to Brookgreen Gardens again in the VERY near future.

Until then, I will be somewhere in my secret garden. Come and see if you can find me.
